Philanthropy

Robbie Page Memorial, the philanthropy of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation, concentrates its efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children". Our philanthropy was established in 1951 following the death of the son of Sigma Sigma Sigma's third national president.

In the beginning, Robbie Page Memorial supported various polio research projects. Over time, our philanthropy has expanded its efforts to include play therapy for hospitalized children. Play therapy, an alternative method of healing for children facing serious illnesses, focuses on the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children.

Funds raised by Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority are used to established playrooms for hospitalized children. These playrooms provide a safe-haven for hospitalized children; a place where any interaction with doctors and nurses is focused on playing instead of their illnesses. Nationally, our efforts began with University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC and have since expanded to include Children's Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

Locally, the Zeta Pi chapter has made many donations to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA. In addition to play therapy, Robbie Page Memorial has created a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and other health care professions.
