Requirements for German major at VWC
A departmental major in German consists of 24 semester hours beyond GER 212, including GER 305, 306, 313, 314 (or 315, 316). A student majoring in German should spend a semester in a German-speaking country.

- GER 305: German Advanced Conversation and Composition I
- GER 306: German Advanced Conversation and Composition II
- GER 313: Cultural and Intellectual History of Germany: From the Germanic Tribes to Storm and Stress
- or GER 315: German Literature: Early Germanic Tribes to the Age of Goethe
- GER 314: Cultural and Intellectual History of Germany: From Romanticism to the Present
- or GER 316: German Literature: Romanticism to Present Day
Elective Courses
The students must complete an additional 12 hours (4 courses) at the 300 or higher level. Optional courses are:
- GER 325: The German Novelle
- GER 326: The German Novel
- GER 329: Modern German Literature
- GER 430: The German Comedy
- GER 431: German Literature into Film
- GER 443: Senior Seminar
- GER 471: Practicum in the Teaching of German
- GER 492: Business German
