The Chrysler museum in downtown Norfolk is offering a new membership options designed to cater to students.
The $25 student membership fee grants participants one-year free access to the entire Chrysler collection. This includes art ranging from ancient to contemporary.
Also featured are exhibits that are on loan or from travels around the world. These are included in the membership.
Members are able to use the Chrysler’s art research library and listen to art lectures free.
With the membership card received by mail, students receive invitations to events, exhibit previews, and parties held by For Arts Sake: Young Affiliates of the Chrysler.
The For Art’s Sake group is responsible for events that are not only social but also educational. They also donate money each year to support the special and changing exhibitions.
There are plans to have an inter-school mixer, which would bring student members together in Huber Court, the main courtyard and central largest room of the museum, with other college and graduate students who share the same interest in the arts.
Students who are looking for additions to a graduate school application or job resume might be interested in the wealth of internship, externship, or volunteer opportunities.
Volunteers, depending on their schedules, have a choice of short-term or long-term commitments. The Guest Services coordinator will appropriately match any skill or interests students may have to the activities available.
If members are looking for a long-term commitment, they can become part of the Docent Council. Docents are trained for student and adult tours. Training starts in the fall and includes weekly classes, gallery sessions and touring techniques.
If students are interested in the Docent position but are unable to handle the workload required, the Highlighter position is another option.
Highlighters concentrate on the most important works in the collection during their evening and weekend training. As part of the membership, students will receive invitations to an informative career night.
For enterntainment, there are free Jazz concerts every Wednesday night.
