Chandler and Monica are married and are adopting a child Phoebe and Mike are united in holy matrimony and Ross and Rachel made it in the end and have a beautiful baby girl, Emma.
And then there was “Joey.”
“Joey,” NBC’s new hit comedy, follows Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) on his search for superstardom in Hollywood. He is reunited with his sister Gina (Drea de Matteo - “The Sopranos”) and nephew Michael (Paulo Costanzo, “Road Trip”) after all his New York friends change and move on with their lives.
“I loved ‘Friends,’ and I was sad when I found out that it was over for good,” said sophomore Kimberly Stinedurf.“Nothing will ever be able to replace ‘Friends,’ but ‘Joey’ should be a very funny show.”
This highly anticipated new fall comedy will air every Thursday, the same time that “Friends” aired, 8 p.m.
Another show that has hit the reality TV scene is UPN’s “Amish in the City.” The show follows five Amish people who have decided to leave their lives back home, in a right of passage called “rumspringa.” It’s a chance for them to find out what the rest of the world has to offer outside their Amish culture. They must then decide if they want to leave their families for good or move back to their society. “Rumspringa” usually takes place at age 16 and during this period of time participants are allowed to go to parties, drink alcoholic beverages, wear jeans, and hang out with friends. The five Amish are living under one roof with six city dwellers, all trying to get along with each other’s customs and beliefs. “Amish in the City” airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. on UPN.
Sometimes, though, instead of being drawn to the new shows, old favorites draw viewers back for more such as “The Real World”.
Set in Philadelphia, “The Real World”’s 15 season marks the longest running reality show in history. It promises to be as action packed as the previous shows.
“I’m really excited for Real World to start,” says junior Laura Straley.
This season the stars are: Karamo from Los Angeles, a sports fanatic Landon, beach bum Melanie, family-man MJ, Floridain Sarah, the life of the party Shavonda, and artsy Willie, all living under one roof. Catch “The Real World” every Tuesday at 10 p.m. on MTV.
“Gilmore Girls,” starring Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledelas as Rory Gilmore, appears on the WB. The show depicts the friendship and the family that this mother-daughter duo face on an everyday basis. Rory attends Yale and endures the college dating scene since her high school boyfriend is getting married. Lorelai, though sad about letting Rory become independent and live on her own, fulfills a dream of her own and opens an inn with her chef and best friend Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy).
“I watch ‘Gilmore Girls.’” said freshman Amanda Working.“I like it because it’s got the mother and daughter living on their own”
All is well in their little town in Connecticut for the girls; “Gilmore Girls” premierse on Tuesday, September 21 at 8 p.m.
Reality is great and having a friend is wonderful but what about something to satisfy the need for animation? Remember those Saturday mornings spent in front of the television set watching all those cartoons no one dares to speak of today? Well, “Father of the Pride,” a series created by DreamWorks Animation, is here to fill the void.
The family of lions, voiced by John Goodman (“Roseanne”), Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Danielle Andrea Harris (“Rugrats Go Wild”), Daryl Sabara (“Spy Kids”), and Carl Reiner (“Ocean’s 11”), live and work in Las Vegas for Siegfried & Roy.
But unlike those animated series for kids, this show is geared towards mature crowds, due to adult language and situations, including an outspoken, dirty-mouthed orangutan and two lesbian gophers. “Father of the Pride” can be seen on NBC every Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Whether it’s an animated series, a comedy about a family of loud Italians, a reality show about the Amish or a drama about a mother-daughter team, this fall season is pulling out all the stops for all its viewers.
