The following e-mail was sent to the VWC campus community from Dean of Students David Buckingham on Sept. 4:

On Friday, Aug. 31, it was reported to Virginia Wesleyan administrators that a Virginia Wesleyan employee had made a verbal bomb threat to certain unnamed individuals at the College. Based on the reported statement, there was no immediate threat to the campus community, but due to the seriousness of the alleged threat, Virginia Wesleyan promptly reported it to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, the individual who made the threat was arrested by Virginia Beach Police and charged with a felony. He is currently in the Virginia Beach jail, and his employment with the College has been terminated.

The fired Virginia Wesleyan employee is security guard Darron E. Muncy. Muncy s lawyer, Peter G. Decker III, said that the matter is a very huge misunderstanding, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

Currently Muncy is out on bond. He declined to comment for this story.

Muncy s name has been released through the Public Information Office of Virginia Beach. The college must be mindful of the confidentiality of its employees, according to Buckingham.

I think it s a very unfortunate situation, said Buckingham. However, it is also very serious and the college responded in the way I think it should have. It was a difficult decision.
