Freshmen and Seniors: What s on your mind?

The one word I would use to describe my life as a college freshman is change. Most of my family and teachers in high school told me that I would have a lot more freedom than I was used to, but I did not realize how true it was until I moved to VWC. It is hard to adjust to waking up on time, doing homework and even having to wear shower shoes; epecially without having your family nearby to keep you on track.
I am finding it kind of difficult to create the perfect balance between my social life and my academic life. My course load is pretty heavy, and I do not want to spend my time studying in the dorm. But I also want to be able to have fun without worrying about missing too many classes and not turning in my assignments on time. There are always some fun things to do with my friends either on campus or at the beach. It is really easy to just forget about doing homework by staying on Facebook or MySpace all the time.
One of the things that I am most looking forward to is meeting all the smiling faces I see around campus. Everyone seems to be much friendlier than they were in high school. No matter what aspects of college I am having trouble with- there are people who are there to offer a helping hand.
However, there are some bad aspects to the college life. First, I am also looking into a future of debt. Virginia Wesleyan is an expensive private school, and I am paying my tuition all by myself. Even with scholarships and grants, I know that after I graduate I will have to worry about paying back loans. I also do not know if I am ready for all the hard decisions that I have to make for myself. I am already finding it difficult to pick my classes, let alone deciding what career I want to follow for the rest of my life.
Lastly, one more thing that is hard to get used to is living in the dorms. I have been spoiled with having my own bathroom at home, and now I have to share community bathrooms and a washer and a dryer with every other girl on my hall. Even though it is hard to get used to dorm life I still love all the girls on my hall. My R.A. is awesome.
In the end, I know that college will be worth the money and time. I cannot wait for all the fun things that VWC has to offer during my next four years!
