Three game win streak aides women's lacrosse in road to ODACS

By Kimmy Bausch

Virginia Wesleyan’s women’s lacrosse team is currently enjoying a 9-2 record and 5-1 in the ODAC after a successful spring break, including a three game win streak.

The Marlins defeated Roanoke College 12-10 in Salem, Va. on March 19. Junior, All-American attack Laura Wallace scored four goals for the Marlins, while senior All-American attack player Megan Parris scored three goals.

First-year attack Jillian Boyd tallied one goal for the Marlins. During the second half Wallace scored two more goals. First-year attack, Liz Angevine and sophomore attack Jamie Jones both added one more goal for the Marlins.

The Marlins improved its record to a school record 6-1 by defeating Villa Julie College 20-9 on March 20. Parris scored a season-high seven goals. Along with Parris, sophomore attack Chrissy Clancy scored a career-high six goals. Sophomore goalie Jaci Downey had nine saves in the game.

The Marlins defeated Christopher Newport University 12-11 on March 23. Parris and Boyd each had four goals, while Clancy tallied three and Jones contributed one. Downey recorded 10 saves off 28 shots.

However, the downfall for the Marlins came during Spring Break, when they lost to ODAC powerhouse Washington and Lee University 13-5 on March 26. Despite Parris and Wallace each contributing two goals, it was not enough as the Generals outshot the Marlins 42-25.

“The game hard for us because they had so many players and we didn’t,” said Clancy.

After the loss to W&L, the Marlins were back to its winning ways as the team beat Lynchburg College and Guilford College, 16-11 and 16-6 respectively. In the game against Guilford, Parris had six goals and five assists, to post a season high 11 points.

The Marlins will next be in action against Marymount University on April 9.
