Country-pop artists Meg Allison and Natalie Stovall came to perform a double concert called the “Girls Rock Concert” on Saturday, April 19th during Virginia Wesleyan College’s annual Seafood in the Dell celebration. Held in the quad outside the Batten Student Center, Allison and Stovall each played individual sets for the campus community during Seafood in the Dell, which is the annual “all-you-can-eat” buffet style dinner full of fresh seafood hosted by Residence Life.
“We thought it would be a good idea to have the concert outside with Seafood in the Dell because it would be easy for people to hear the music and come over,” said Caitlin Donlin, Vice President of the Wesleyan Activities Council (WAC) and a sophomore at VWC. “That way students do not have to walk far for the concert.”
The Mainstage committee of WAC brought the performers, Meg Allison and Natalie Stovall, here. Equipped with just her guitar and a microphone, Meg Allison is an acoustic-pop singer from Nashville, TN. She described her music as “less power pop than Kelly Clarkson and less country than Carrie Underwood.” Having sung on the USA Network’s “Nashville Star” competition, Allison has traveled around the nation on her tours to colleges and small venues.
Natalie Stovall also hails from Nashville, TN. Stovall was a singer ever since she was five years old, having the opportunity to perform on the Oprah Winfrey show when she was younger. After high school, she attended Berkeley College of Music on a vocal scholarship. With her music roots in country, Stovall travels the country with her band of three guys.
The concert began at 6:30 p.m. with Allison’s set. Both Allison and Stovall played 45-minute sets, which were of their original songs, as well as covers.
“We would love to have them back,” said J.R. Ennis, “They were great entertainers and we look forward to booking them again in the future.”
