Graduating, for many seniors, is a time to look back on the past four years and understand why we did what we did, learn from experiences of others that may have not been the best influences on us, and, more importantly, a time to celebrate the accomplishments and goals achieved over the past four years. Looking back, I have no regrets of any choices or decisions that I have made. I believe that with each step and struggle I have learned something more about myself that I did not think was imaginable.
Counting down the next couple of weeks, it almost seems unbelievable that in just 16 days, I will be graduating college and moving on to the real world. I believe that each senior who is about to graduate in May has a mixture of emotions and opinions about what will come after graduation.
It quite honestly scares the hell out of me. But with this uneasy feeling, I m also excited to embark on new memories and appreciate what my friends, family, teachers and coaches have taught me while studying in college.
Fortunately, I know that everything will work out the way it is supposed to and I will figure out where my place is in this world. However, the waiting and the feelings attached with this process are somewhat overwhelming. I can remember my first couple of days at Virginia Wesleyan, and who can forget the wonderful trip to camp Silver Beach? At the time I did not appreciate that trip, but looking back now I met some of my best friends through tearing crabs apart, and riding banana boats.
You may say that you meet some of your best friends in high school, but in reality you meet some of your most true friends in college. These are the people who see you for who you really are, not just some cookie-cutter image that everyone aspires to be in high school.
Each and every senior has gone through the same process of beginning college and not knowing a single soul. You grow with these people and learn from each other. You experience the good with the bad, the bad with the good.
Though I am extremely nervous about what to expect in the years following graduation, I am fortunate to have such a strong group of friends right beside me, and even more importantly, the preparation that college has given me throughout these past four years.
Congratulations, class of 2009!
