Another seafood success

Every student is waiting for summer to come. There is one thing they want to happen year round: Seafood in the Dell, which is put on by Residence Life. On April 17, students and faculty enjoyed a beautiful night with all-you-can-eat shrimp, crab legs, clams, and corn on the cob. There were also burgers and hot dogs for those who do not prefer seafood. But it wasn t just the food that made the evening; it was the wonderful positive atmosphere.
Great to see everyone involved with the campus eating together. No fighting or conflicts, said Majora Gooden, a freshman commuter who was happy to see a wide variety of the campus community.
Gooden was one of the lucky commuters who received a free meal ticket for the event. These were only given in limited quantities.
The people who are responsible for the event work very hard, said Brian La Barr, a senior commuter student. He had to pay $30 dollars to attend the event but it was all-you-can-eat so it was worth it.
Even with the great atmosphere, there were some students who thought the long lines to get food were frustrating.
Long lines are negative but the food is awesome!, said Alan Gurdal, a Junior.
The event also included music by Natalie Stovall who was brought to campus by Student Activities. Stovall was at last year s Seafood in the Dell, and students enjoyed her return.
I find the artist to be entertaining, said junior Mark Jones.
It feels good to relax and have fun at Virginia Wesleyan, said Antonio Rivera, a senior.
I think that it was a good mix, since students were able to enjoy music and food at the same time. Who doesn t love food and show!!! Plus it was super nice that day. I couldn t ask for anything better, said Dominique Cross, a junior and Director of Main Stage for Student Activities.
But there were others who thought that VWC should switch it up for next year.
It is my favorite event of the year. They should keep it a tradition. Take a break from Natalie. Need a little variation, said Tamara Ritter, junior at VWC.
The event also gave the chance for faculty to be involved with the students.
Everyone s just hanging around. It s a beautiful night. Music s good. Gives me a chance to see students I have had in class but haven t seen in a while, said Professor Guilfolye, an art professor, attending the event for the first time with his wife and children.
I ve always loved it. It s a great event, said Dr. Ewell, Assistant Professor of Management/Business/Economics. He graduated from VWC in 1989 and stills enjoys coming for the food.
Absolutely wonderful: Great food, great weather. This is what Wesleyan s all about, said Mr. David Garraty, Professor of MBE, who came to the event for a good time.
The event was a success and it even provided some students the opportunity to have their first crab legs.
I ve never had crab before in my life. Now that I know you have to hit it to eat it, I am going to be eating it a lot, said Ashley Buck, a junior.
