In the fall semester of 2008, student Chad Nuber began Virginia Wesleyan s Medieval Club. The club worked with a local reenactment, The House DuChasse, and brought medieval swordplay and other practices of days long ago to the campus.

The students who have joined enjoy history, medieval culture, and using weapons such as swords and bows and arrows. In addition to medieval swordplay and archery, members can also learn skills, such as how to make clothing appropriate to the medieval period, how to make chain mail, jewelry, poetry and cooking.

On Sat., April 18, the club had their most recent event to gain more members. They had everything from fencing to archery to arts and crafts. Another event is scheduled for the fall.

The Medieval Club will teach members to fence in the style of Medieval warriors (those in the VWC Fencing Club and class will find most of the movements and sword types different from what they re used to) and how to make bows and arrows, just like Robin Hood.

If anyone is interested in joining the Medieval Club for the upcoming semester, contact Chad Nuber (cmnuber@vwc.edu).
