The Lady Marlins had a 94-88 victory over Bridgewater on February 21. This was a huge win for the team, as Bridgewater was undefeated. Also, this win bumped Bridgewater from first to second place in the conference.

Junior Leeanna Lillefloren was honored with a game ball after the match-up for her outstanding performance at Lynchburg, where she scored her 1000th point.

“I had no idea I had reached it until [coach Joanne Renn] she gave me the ball. I was surprised,” said Lillefloren.

The Marlins finished their season in fourth place with a 15-8 record overall and 12-6 in the conference. This proved to be quite an accomplishment for the ladies as they were picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll.

Sophomore Lori Henn credits coach Renn for the team’s success: “She encouraged us from the beginning. She knew we could do it.”

When asked about key players for this season, Renn said she was pleased with the overall performance of the team.

“It is a very balanced squad as far as time and scoring. Everyone knows their role and plays accordingly,” she said.

The team has four women who averaged double figures each game: Lillefloren, sophomores Bridget Smith and Nancy Mattox, and freshman Erin Duckett. However, there were seven different leading scorers throughout their season.

“That’s the mark of a good team” said Renn.
