Though some might be embarassed by their library of Disney VHS’s, some people will actually own up to them. That is, if they still own up to the VCR that plays them.

You don’t need to hide your chick flicks and kid films

Ever sit with your friends on a Thursday at 2 a.m. and have a conversation about favorite movies you’d never admit to liking? Think about that question for a second and see what movies come into your head.

The first one to answer, I replied “Mac & Me,” a 1988 movie known best for its blatant advertising of Coke, Skittles and McDonald’s (the movie has an actual sing and dance with Mac at a local McDonald’s during a birthday party).

Someone yelled, “40 Days and 40 Nights” (though no one would own up to having said it). I called out “Sleepless in Seattle” (another favorite of mine), while Chris Molloy, a senior, said “Love Actually.”

“‘The Notebook,’” said sophomore Dallas Larson, “it’s a good watch with good acting.” As we continued to call out movies from “The Mighty Ducks” to “Little Monsters” it got me thinking: if four guys sitting around at 2:00 a.m. were coming up with movies from “Mac & Me” to “Love Actually,” what would other classmates come up with?

So, I threw on my reporter hat (which is just a hippie-style cowboy hat), and I proceeded to ask every passing person I saw what their favorite movie was that they’d never admit to. Many people just kept walking. Many more stood in complete confusion trying to think of a movie. Suddenly I realized that this wasn’t going to be so easy.

As I was walking back to my room I stopped at the basketball game and ran into senior Jenna Mastera. Mastera excitedly said that “Pocahontas” was her favorite movie, even though it’s “supposed to be a kid movie.”

Sophomore Lib Melby owned up to liking “Spice World.”

Sophomore Matt Davis laughed and said, “‘The Fox and the Hound.’ The fox is nuts.”

Zella DeForest smiled and said, “Milo and Otis,” a movie about a cat and a dog who are best friends. “It calms me down when I’m upset,” she said.

I guess for me it isn’t just one movie but a whole series.

I’m a die hard Trekkie who loves all the “Star Trek” Movies.
