Our Voice

It has been said that Virginia Wesleyan is a second choice or safety school for most students. Maybe that would explain why our school has so many problems. Last semester there was a huge turnover of students who were dismissed from the college for reasons ranging from drug and alcohol abuse to defacing and vandalizing school property. From the Christmas tree being cut down to a window being kicked out of the chapel these are the students that Wesleyan is admitting in order to have enough money for the college to run. The college s dream of becoming Phi Beta Kappa is never going to happen if these students continue to be admitted to Wesleyan. Firing security guards is certainly not the way to solve the problem of vandalism.
The hope is that if the administration took their jobs more seriously then students would take Wesleyan more seriously. If more qualified security guards are hired who experience an enjoyable work environment; if high-quality students are admitted and if more emphasis is put on academic excellence; then, instead of being embarrassed to say, I go to Virginia Wesleyan students will be proud to call themselves Marlins.
