Wood Company aims to please
by Adam Houser

The Wood Food Company has been serving the cafeteria at Virginia Wesleyan College since 1991. Their goal is to keep Wesleyan students happy with the food served. This goal is accomplished by obtaining suggestions and comments from students in order to make proper changes.

Students have many ways to make comments. Inside the cafeteria is a “sound off” bulletin board where at any time a student can voice his or her opinion, make comments and/or make suggestions about the food or the service.

Jeff Danhardt, director of dining services said, “ We have an open-door policy. There is a staff member on the floor at all times to take comments.”

Each year students are asked to fill out a customer satisfaction survey concerning things like the variety of foods, freshness of food, helpfulness of the staff and cleanliness of the cafeteria. It is important to the Wood Company to keep everyone happy.

“We’re here to provide a service, said Danhardt. “We have nothing to gain by not pleasing our customers, and everything to lose.”

The Wood Company is constantly making changes as a result of student input. This school year, the dinner hours are from 5-7 p.m. to accommodate more students.

Polly Gaskins, who claims to be “The Hostess with the Mostest,” feels this is greatly appreciated by the students and said, “We’re pleased if they’re pleased.”

Over the past year many things have been introduced to the menu thanks to student suggestions and the cooperative staff. Some of these things are: flavored coffee syrups, iced tea, cereals and ice creams.

“It’s tough pleasing 500 people,” Danhardt said.

Gaskins added, “I feel the majority of the students are happy. If comments have not yet been answered, they will be. There are a lot of suggestions, and it does take time.”
