Despite several injuries and complications, the men’s basketball team has high expectations.

The team has several returning players who will be key factors in the teams’ success this season, as they look to win there first ODAC title since 1994.

The senior returners include: guards A.J. Hamlin and Troy Walton, and forward Jason Nickerson, who was a First Team All-ODAC selection last season.

Junior Tim Petrillo, who was selected for Second Team All-ODAC, will return at guard, while junior Nathan Hale and sophomore Cory Clouser will also contribute greatly.

“The leadership of Jason Nickerson is critically important to the success of the team,” said Head Coach Butterfield.

“Not only is he one of the best players, but he is team captain and has the potential to be an outstanding leader.”

Butterfield is looking to start two freshmen this year, who have shown a lot of talent. James Wallace will play at point guard, and Josh Fisher at forward.

Other freshmen who will be big contributors are McKinley Ford and Donnell Bledsoe.

This year’s season consists of eighteen ODAC games. Key games outside of the conference include Christopher Newport University, Salisbury State, and Averett College.

“We have a talented group of guys who show good leadership, team togetherness and work ethic. We have an excellent chance at a good year,” added Butterfield.

The team hopes for strong support from fans, despite the drastic changes in the roster.
