The Lady Marlin’s Basketball Team returns with all of it’s starters this season, including eight players overall out of last year’s twelve.

Returning starters include: seniors Leanna Lillefloren and Bridgette Smith, and juniors Erin Duckett, Samantha Green, and Nancy Mattox.

Other returning key players are: junior Lori Henn and sophomores Janine Swanson and Meliza Meade.

“The returners came back strong,” said Green, “and we have a decent freshman class to look forward to.

“Our goal is to play our style of ball and not fall to anyone else’s.”

By taking games one at a time, the Lady Marlins have high hopes of not only winning an ODAC title, but going on to the NCAA tournament that follows.

“We have a great group of girls,” said Duckett. “We will go a long way if we all stick together.”

Head Coach Joanne Renn is looking forward to getting the season underway.

“We’ve got a strong group of leaders on the squad,” said Renn.

On last year’s team, four players averaged double figures each game. Renn says that this year’s team is a very balanced squad and everyone is capable of high scoring.

“I’d like to see us go on to the NCAA tournament,” said Renn.

The Lady Marlins open their season Friday, November 20, at the Washington College Tip-Off Tournament, where they will take on Albright College. Their first ODAC game is November 30 at Mary Washington College.

“People are expecting to see a good team,” said Green. “We had a good turnout at the scrimmage, and I hope it continues.”
