The campus has had a recent rash of crimes including sign vandalism, the discovery of several cuts to the fabric of the bubble, a forcible sexual offense, a non-forcible sexual offense, and a report of an altercation between two students in Village III climaxing with one pulling a knife.

Within one week, six signs have been pulled out of the ground, painted on, or completely stolen from campus. The incidents have not been limited to one area or targeted towards one type of sign, making it a widespread problem for campus security and maintenance. At the time this article went to print, there were still no suspects.

"Signs are for directions for students and visitors," said Director of Security Leo Therrien. "What's it going to take for some people to understand that what we do as faculty and staff is in the best interest of the students?"

The four by four foot sign leading toward Village III has been rebuilt this semester because someone took it apart. On Oct. 31 a fire lane sign was stolen from Lot B and a speed limit sign was stolen from Village III. Friday, Nov. 7, security had two signs and maintenance had one sign that were waiting to be put back. One of the signs to be put back by security gives direction to the Study for Center of Religious Freedom Program.

Freshman Jacob White, a dishwasher employed by Wood Dining Services, found a possum caught in the outer conveyer belt for the trays, Tuesday. He said that he had also been the first to spot the marsupial four days earlier.
"I discovered him alive, I discovered him dead," said White. "Thursday, I saw him running under the counter in the dish room, and before tonight, the last time I saw him, he had run into the soda closet."
Lt. Manny White of campus security, said that the cafeteria had been having problems with rodents for some time.
"Anytime you are dealing with a lot of food and serving a lot of people things like this are bound to happen," he explained. "These folks are just doing their jobs and trying to deal with the situation the best way they can."
Many students responded to news of the discovery with shock and awe. Sophomore resident April Gallagher said, "I know I won't be eating the café for a really, really long time."
