Residence Life hall money benefits all
by Andy McNamara

The Residence Life Office under the direction of Mark Cassarino, assistant director, is bring something to the students of Virginia Wesleyan that most people tend to be unaware of. Hall money. And as most students would agree, money is one thing that is a bare necessity on any college campus.

Every semester each hall is presented with $50 to come up with hall events that would, as Cassarino puts it, “benefit the hall.”

Hall money was originally given to the Residence Life office, but in recent years the money is a direct result of the microfridges the school rents to the students during the year.

The college makes no money off this product and any profit goes into funding other requests that the Residence Life office has such as the beach volleyball courts outside the library.

Cassarino doesn’t take full credit for the job he has done.

“A lot of the credit needs to go to the RA staff because they were instrumental in delivering them,” Cassarino said.

As far as money for hall programs, Cassarino said, “The hall residents are the ones who can make the program a good one or a bad one.”

“It’s also whether or not the RA’s on the respective halls can take the initiative to motivate the students to come up with a good program,” said Megan McClary, Village I Assistant.

Freshman Chris Harris said, “I think that the money is good for giving the hall an opportunity to do something fun together that would help with the bonding process in the hall."
