Field Hockey scores the best season in
the school's history
by Nathaniel S. Hale
A balanced offense attack and consistent defense has led the field hockey team to their best season ever.
Something neat about our team is that we dont have any one person scoring all our goals, said Coach Burt. We have seven different players that have scored two or more goals in the season.
The offense has been led by sophomore Raye Jean McMichael with nine goals and six assists.
Other top performers are juniors Charity Gent, eight goals and five assists, Andrea Provost, with seven goals and two assists, and Amanda Labarre with six goals.
The success of the Marlins has also depended on the help of the defensive backfield, which consists of juniors Jane Canavan and Chryse Ciresi, and sophomores Danielle Brewer, Tammy Potter, and Serena Vegassi.
Junior Kristy Reed has also made valuable contributions, despite chronic knee trouble that has limited her play.
In the cage for the Marlins is sophomore Brittany Ewers. She has recorded three shut-outs and has a 1.83 goals against average.
On Saturday, October 17, the women lost to Catholic 2-1, on a goal scored with 1:03 left in the game.
On October 18, they rebounded with a 4-2 victory over Hood College.
Currently, the Marlins record is 10-4 in the season and 4-3 in the ODAC.
I think its the best team weve had in school history, shown by the fact that weve had the best record in school history, said junior Andrea Provost. We give new meaning to the word team.
