Cross-Country exceeds all expectations

Wesleyan’s Cross-Country team has had a successful season thus far, coming up on the ODAC tournament that will take place next Saturday, November 7.

Having just eight runners, five men and three women, the team has only been able to compete in individual races, rather than team races.

“So far the team has exceeded my earlier expectations,” said head coach Matthew Puryear.

For the women, Jessica Scott has been a top runner, placing in the upper third of all of the meets which she has competed in.

Two men who have excelled this season are Neil Addesso and Carlos Pena, both of whom also placed in the upper third of the meets they have been in.

A huge meet for the Marlins took place at William and Mary College on October 17th, where they ran against top Division One schools including, UVA, JMU, VCU, and VMI.

The team had set personal goals before the meet at William & Mary, and each runner met them when the meet was over.

“The team has made a lot of progress,” said Addesso. “We have good team unity and we’re improving continuously.”

High hopes of recruiting more runners for next year’s season is a top priority on Puryear’s list.
