As the mens soccer team continues on with their winning tradition, they are currently ranked first in their conference and ninth in the nation.
This years team has really exceeded my expectations, said Coach Sunny Travis. The young players have worked much better with the older players than I expected.
The mens season started off with a huge victory over Kean University in the Kappa Kick-Off Classic, winning 3-2.
We showed right off hand that we could play with any other team in the country, said Travis.
The Marlins went 8-0 to start the season before losing a tight game against Eastern Mennonite 1-0 at their Homecoming Game. However, the men came back with big victories over Roanoke and Bridgewater. The only other set back was a 3-2 loss over Greensboro College, another powerhouse.
As of now, the Marlins have a record of 13-2 with the ODAC and Regional tournaments yet to come.
Forward, Vinnie Schiullo leads the team with 13 goals and 1 assist. Forward Ryan Molloy has also proven to be a key player for the offense.
Other essential players are defenders James Abadi and Jacob Plet, along with midfielders Matt Hasty and Brad Bertolet.
Coach Travis has also been impressed with the performance of Freshman Goalie Jamie Kyne, who has had eight shut-outs this season so far.
The Marlins are also looking forward to hosting a regional play-off game. If they win the first two games in Nationals, they will host a game on Foster Field.
We realistically can beat most any team in the nation if we play our game, said Travis. I feel confident we will host a game.
