Award winning actresses Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifa, Jennifer Hudson, and Alicia Keys blew audiences away with their performance in  The Secret Life of Bees.

The movie toakes place in the racist times of 1964 in South Carolina. Lily Owens (Fanning) lives with her abusive father. Her mother died when she was a toddler. After arguing with her father, she and her nanny Rosaleen (Hudson) run away to live with three sisters. The Boatwright sisters, played by Latifa, Keys, and Sophie Okenedo, live on a bee farm making honey. Keys doesn t welcome the strangers with open arms, but the other two sisters take them in and teach them the skill of honey making.

As time goes by, Rosaleen and Lily become part of the Boatwright family, experiencing happiness and tragedy together. For the first time Lily feels a sense of love and feels like she belongs to a family.

Her father finds out about her whereabouts and shows up at the house. He refuses to leave without his daughter and starts another argument between the two of them. Her father reveals information about her mother, which leaves her at peace with the loss of her mother.

This movie touched many hearts with the outstanding performances by the film s accomplished actresses. It was definitely a film that struck a chord. It debuted with high expectations. From the audience s response, it lived up to every one of them.
