Is Halloween still scary?

There’s no question about the excitement in the chilled autumn air when Halloween rolls around. Halloween, after all, means candy and costumes. Who doesn’t love to be distracted from school in the middle of fall by M&Ms and masks?

But is it still scary? Is there an age that we reach when we’re no longer scared by the ghosts and ghouls that abound the stories of this holiday?

There may be no hope of being scared just walking around campus on All Hallows’ Eve, but perhaps you can find some fright at Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream, an eerie event lasting the month of October, with haunted houses, hayrides and forests, some of which are scary enough to be forbidden to anyone under the age of 17. And if you do find yourself on campus, I dare you to keep from screaming while sitting through a free showing of Saw IV, courtesy of Student Activities, on Oct. 26. Or you could check out the Frightfest on Oct. 27, creeping into the Grille.

Think Halloween can’t scare you anymore? Go out and prove it.
