Inpulse gave us rapid heart rates

By Kevin Casteel

The crowd was cheering, the walls were vibrating, the energy and excitement was relentless as the Virginia Wesleyan Grille was turned into the Norva. The InPulse invasion had begun at VWC.

InPulse is one of the country’s freshest, hottest, newest vocal bands that sing without instruments. The group uses their mouths and microphones to create a sensational, pulse-pounding beat.

InPulse contains four male members who hale from different places. There is Marcus, who is from Montana and is bass. Gabe, who is from Wisconsin and is tenor. Matt, who is from Australia and is baritone. And Steve, who is from Minnesota and is vocal percussion.

“We all met in college,” says Marcus. “We went to a liberal arts college that had an exceptional music program. Steve recently graduated and joined us this summer.”

This is the second time InPulse has been to Virginia Wesleyan. The crowd turnout was huge this year, and one could feel the energy of the audience throughout the concert.

The Wesleyan student body had positive reviews.

“It was impressive and not what I expected at all,” said freshman Tiffanie Brown. “I enjoyed their performance.”

Inpulse started out the concert by singing the Michael Jackson hit, “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Next, they sang the Australian hit “The Land Down Under,” followed by Ryan Cabrera’s “True.”

They sing a wide variety of music ranging from pop, rock, R&B, country and some rap. They demonstrated all types of songs in their concert.

“We are trying to do something different,” said Matt. “We call ourselves a vocal band.”

Steve did an impressive solo using his mouth as a dream beat. Marcus is considered one of the most important band members because he is the base line. Marcus sung his own rendition of Johnny Cash’s hits “Walk The Line” and “Ring of Fire.”

“It is our pleasure to do shows,” said Steve. “We are a bit nervous, but that allows us to be pumped up. Nervous energy creates adrenaline.”

InPulse has been on tour for 20 days. “ We do tons of variety shows,” said Matt. “ We also do education programs and corporate work.”

WAC’s TGIF committee sponsored InPulse.

“InPulse came to Wesleyan last year and are part of the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA),” TGIF Director Kristie Patton said,

“Undescribable. No words to say how amazing these guys are,” said sophomore Chris Panther.

The last song of the evening was Rascal Flatt’s “Life is a Highway.” At this point, every student was up dancing and having a great time.

“This has been by far the most fun crowd. It has been a great time and every time is unique,” said Matt.

InPulse’s new live album is due out in November.
