|
Making bears was certainly an interesting experience. I learned that sewing is certainly not my strongest talent in life. I decided to do my part by cutting out the patterns and letting other people stuff and sew the bears. Although my artistic ability kept me from doing everything, I felt good knowing I did my part to get these bears ready for children who really need them. |

Soccer

I had the opportunity to work with the Chesapeake Special Olympics Soccer program. It was incredible. Soccer is a major part of my life and it was such a joy to be able to share my experience and love of the game with people that have not been given the same opportunities that I have. I loved seeing the looks on the players faces when they scored a goal or when I told them that they had done something well. I look forward to seeing them again next week. |

Today was just another practice. The kids have their tournament next week on Saturday. Unfortunately, I have a game of my own at school so I won't be able to go to their games. When I told the kids this, they seemed really upset. I'm really sad that I can't make their games, but at the same time it feels good to know that what I'm doing is making an impact on someone. |

with Faculty's Children
|
This was the first year that I was not at home with my family on Halloween, handing out candy to the neighborhood kids. I was really glad that I had the opportunity to help out with the VWC faculty's kids. They were adorable to say the least. One kid named Luke was dressed up as Elmo. There were so many kids there, just running around going crazy, but it really made me happy that I still got to be involved with a community on Halloween. |

Project
|
Today I went over behind V4 to work on the Bollard Project that was started earlier in the month. The purpose of this project is to prevent cars from driving on the trails that go over towards Lake Taylor. The holes were already dug and most of the concrete was poured into the holes already so all that had to be done was to screw the bollards into the concrete. This was easier said than done because none of the volunteers had had any experience with this before. It was extremely cold outside and the concrete had not completely settled so we didn't get as much achieved as we wanted, but I still really enjoyed the chance to get outside and help be a part of this project. |

CHKD Bears

I made a lot of bears today. I mainly worked on fixing bears that had already been cut out, but not yet sewn. It was very meticulous work and I ended up accidentally stabbing myself several times with the pins that were holding the patterns together. After cutting out 37 bear patterns, I moved on to completing some other bears that had already been sewn. I stuffed them and then, after learning to sew, I sewed them up. I did a lot of work and worked for a long time, but in the end I really feel like it was worth it and I hope that my work will make someone smile. |

CHKD Bears

I went back to fixing the bear patterns today. Although I didn't complete nearly as many as I did last time, I still finished quite a few. It was a lot of work making all the bears, but I never really got bored from making them because I know that in the end they will go to children who really need them. |
