VWC Homeless Shelter

1/4/2009 VWC Homeless Shelter 1 hr I helped to set up for the first night of the VWC homeless shelter.  This consisted of sorting closes for the homeless.  Setting up tables and chairs for meals.  Setting up the computer and telephone system to allow for outside communication for the shelter residences.
1/6/2009 VWC homeless Shelter 3 hrs I helped at the shelter tonight by being a monitor of the locker hall.  I helped instruct guests on where the bathroom was and then made sure that other students were not bothering the guests.  I had a good time and met some of the ladies, who wanted to use the restroom where I was posted.  They were grateful and  nice people.  I also got a chance to talk to some  people that I had not met before form VWC and made some new friends.
1/7/2009 VWC Homeless Shelter 12 hrs I helped set up the shelter as usual.  Then, I was assigned to work the fitness exit  staff .  I watched some of the guest go to the smokers area where they were having fun listening to music, making jokes , and  laugh as if nothing was wrong with the world.  Then I worked my overnight shift in the locker hall.  I thought the all night shift would be boring, but I found out that you learn a lot about the people  working with me and the guests.  It was a good night and I would love to do it again.
1/9/2009 VWC Homeless Shelter 4 hrs I helped to set up tables and chairs at the shelter.  Then I worked fitness exit staff  for a little while, the I was switched to washing dishes.  It opened my eyes to see how many dishes there were.  I had never seen all of the guests at one time, so the number of dishes astonished me.
1/10/2009 VWC Homeless Shelter 4 hr I was on shower duty on Saturday night.  I was responsible for distributing towels, wash cloths, and toiletries needed for the guests to be able to take showers.  Some of the guests were grateful that they could have their own individual bar of soap.
