Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters | Turning, stuffing, and sewing bears for patients | This activity was fun and interactive. Even though we didn't actually get to present our work to the children, it was neat to realize the simple act of stuffing toy bears can bring a light into the life of children sick in the hospital. |
| 9/17/09 1 hour | Red Cross Blood Drive | Signing in donors | We manned the staff table for the Red Cross Blood Drive and signed in donors. |
| 9/19/09 4.5 hours | Stop Hunger Now! | Packaging meals for orphans in southern Sudan | We packaged over 300,000 meals. Even though the process was dull and tiring at points, the knowledge that we were making a tangible difference in the lives of so many African children made the experience completely worth it. |
| 11/9/09 2 hours | Freedom Without Walls | Helping run the activities for the high school students | This event didn't make much of an impression in my mind. I volunteered simply to gain service hours, as selfish and uninspired as that may sound. The event was not particularly well-run, but it was an interesting reflection on the significance of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. |
| 11/1/09 : 11/8/09 :11/15/09: 11/22/09 :11/29/09 10 hours | Church | Setting up and taking down almost a thousand chairs every Sunday during the month of November. | This job is possibly one of the most important volunteer jobs at my church, Sovereign Grace Church of Chesapeake. The service could not take place if no one showed up for this job. It's tedious and a huge time consumer, but its rewarding to know that I'm helping create a place of worship for a congregation that numbers almost nine hundred people. |
