 The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to be of service to all mankind.

Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. We believe that all people should be treated with dignity, respect and kindness. Therefore, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has a zero tolerance policy regarding hazing.

Sigma Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha was chartered on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia on December 4, 2004. Sigma Omicron continues to provide service to all mankind by implementing and executing programs that responds to the needs of the community.
