PORTfolio Page

In the PORTfolio program, we have taken two field trips to area locations inspecting the types of housing there.  We looked at suburban living in both affluent and less wealthy neighborhoods, as well as a downtown area.  Also, Michael Townes, President and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit, gave a lecture about the upcoming developments in the public transportation systems.  As the culminating activity, we wrote a paper examining suburban living and incorporating text from our summer reading book, Suburban Nation. We also examined Creative and Analytical Intelligence, reading Successful Intelligence by Sternberg, and writing papers on these topics as well, using examples of class activities which demonstrated qualities of each kind of intelligence.  Click here to read about Creative Intelligence and here to read about Analytical Intelligence.

Also, we had the opportunity to take two personality tests, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory.  From these, I have learned that I know myself well. Suggested jobs, from the Strong Interest Inventory, fell into the fields of teaching, dramatics, and social service.  From the Myers-Briggs test, I have been typed as someone who is, 'Resposive and Responsible.  Feel[s] real concern for what others think or want, and tr[ies] to handle things with due regard for other's feelings".  In examining the way I act in everyday situations, I believe this is an accurate test.
